Featured Campaign: Jumpstart Ford
Through widespread public protest, national grassroots organizing, and direct negotiations with Ford auto dealers, the three-year-old Jumpstart Ford Campaign has made significant progress toward modifying the health damaging practices of Ford Motor Company, until recently America's most profitable and least fuel efficient automaker. Jumpstart's strategies range from the more congenial "Adopt-a-Dealer" project, where local Ford auto dealers team up with environmental activists to boost sales of Ford's lower emissions vehicles, making Ford Motor Company more competitive in the market, to pressuring uncooperative dealers by staging public protests and entrance blockades at local dealerships. Research Update: Auto Asthma Index
The Environmental Working Group's [EWG] recently launched "Auto Asthma Index" a tool that allows consumers and public health advocates to compare the asthma-causing emissions of automobiles by manufacturer, make, year and model. Easily accessible through the EWG website, the asthma index is just one part of a comprehensive report based on a year long research initiative in which the group analyzed the emissions of over 2.5 million vehicles in California. The web report includes detailed findings and recommendations for consumers, the automobile industry and government regulators.
