New Report on Promotion of Unhealthy Food
Reversing Obesity in New York City
An Action Plan for Reducing the Promotion and Accessibility of Unhealthy Food examines the role of the food industry in promoting unhealthy food and suggests policy
directions for reducing its influence. Released by the City University
of New York Campaign Against Diabetes and the Public Health
Association of New York City, the report argues that increasing access
to healthier food and opportunities for physical activity is necessary
but not sufficient to reduce obesity, diabetes and related health
conditions. Without also reducing the availability and promotion of
unhealthy food, government will not be successful in reversing the
growing burden of obesity.
